In round 8 of the Tata Steel Chess Tournament, leader Hikaru Nakamura lost his first game. The world's highest rated player, Magnus Carlsen, outplayed the American in a Sicilian Najdorf, and afterwards explained it all in the press room in Wijk aan Zee, The Netherlands.

  • hahahahah poor Carlsen but it was not his fault he didnt know even that kind of board exist he thought he would explain us with a pc at last :P

  • @daniellos333

    1. Many openings/variations are standard stuff (memorized)

    2. They also SEE it in their head.

I remember a Bobby Fischer story told by another GM. Fischer glanced at the GMs game for two seconds as he walked by (complex middle game position). Two months later, the two met at a tournament and Fischer asked the GM if he had found the win in that game. GM said it was drawn. Fischer then demonstrated the win he had missed.

    These guys simply SEE IT.

  • @drnantz What is wrong with you?

  • 1.03: this is so funny! sorry Magnus..

  • @dinokiller14 Hikaru Nakamura is American actually

  • Magnus managed to defeat an asian? :O

  • At 50 he will be sitting in his own piss, naked on the kitchen floor screaming about aliens and the evil Jews. So goes the great chess minds.

  • Ok I understand. So the black pawn (C5) did in fact come over to D4, where it took the white pawn and then the knight strikes back. Yeah classical Najdorf^^

  • is that the same board bobby fischer touched? if so... i want to rub it so some of their powers rub off on me.

  • @PuFFeboy I'd say that it's also because of all the relationships between the pieces. For example, I was looking at a chess puzzle, a midgame position with one good move to find for white. I spent a long time thinking about it. Can't do this because this guy defends that etc.. When I went upstairs to get food, I could continue to think about it, I remembered everything without trying. I think it has to do with the relationships. They do so much analysis on every position that they are stuck in.

  • @WarLordTR7 its there profession and passion...

  • How the fuck does he remember it?

  • @myrtlebox You're right, but why do they see it in their head? It's obviously because of the time they've spent on this game. Just think about how many times they have played a chess game, how many times they have analyzed their own and other games. We can compare it to algebra. The easy algebra that we learn when we are kids. Like :

4 + x = 5 ... You immiediately see that x is 1 because you know what "+" is and "=" is. But also because you've seen this 1000 times before. Anyway, interesting!

  • @nighterjay Thats your point of view. You're right that "Assumption is also the father of modern science" is my statement. As I see it, most modern science builds up a lot of theories, based on existing imperial data. Then they theorise (or assume, if you like), make more experiments, and check if the data supports the theory (assumption). So, experimental physics and practical physics go hand in hand, in this way. They wouldn't conduct expensive experiments like the LHC ones, without theory.

  • @YouDabian No it is not!!!!!!!!!!! You have made that saying up! There is very little assumption or even presumption in any modern science.... Science, unlike all Religious diatribe, is fact based hard evidence with amazingly little if any assumption. Now theoretical science is a wholly different affair......

  • @Ruxistico never mind

  • @Leatherfaceisthebest I beg you pardon?

  • @citrustaco if the rook on d1 takes on d4 then the knight on a3 takes c2 with a royal fork.... kinda the whole point of taking the knight on d4 in the first place.

  • ahahah what a beauty

  • @nighterjay Assumption is also the father of modern science.

  • @YouDabian "Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups"

  • @nighterjay Your sarcasm seems rather weak, just like your ELO, I guess.

  • @MultiTobbe123 I know who liv Tyler is You moron!! I was being sarcastic, she is the daughter of Steve Tyler. Your English, I have to say is extremely good, but if Your only claim to fame is "HAVING NICE OIL," well, thats pretty sad! HA HA HA HA

  • @nighterjay hahahaahaha!!! Liv Tyler is the actress playing Arwen in Lord of the Rings you moron. And no, i'm not: " just two sad Americano, no passport, no geography, no idea type fellows, who webcam each other to compare chess moves whilst simeltaneously stroking Your Cocks????" I'm from Norway, and our oil is a thousand times better than what you guys have! eat it scumbag
