  • who is this? she's incredible!!! I thought beverly sills was the only one who could make that high D sound good, but I was mistaken! that was amazing!

  • That is Ruth Welting. Really an underrated singer, I think. She was wonderful.

  • Overall a really lovely job. My heart broke to hear the high D delivered ever so slightly underpitch... I think the best technique for delivery always holds the meaning of the text and lyric as a sad realization that the lover will probably not really ever return. The D then sails high on the emotion, not on the diaphragm. Listen to Sills' 1962 version here on You Tube and you will see what I mean.

  • This is the "Willow Song" which happens about 20 min into the opera...and certainly not the finale of the act. BRAVA Ms. Welting!!!
