Yup thats just how I did it. Chopped a hole under the rear seat and stuck 4 more g31s in there. I has 10 total in my Geo. Burned rubber in 3 gears. =)

Also, what is your range now that youve added more batteries?
What is your estimated range for the additional batteries?

You have advanced brushes, right? Also, do you have an emergency disconnect on your car (like one attached to the clutch pedal)?

Love this project Ben. But a good idea to make gearchangeing easy is to put a oneway bearing between the motor and transmission so the car freewheels when you let of the accelerator. I would love to see someone try that.
Congratulations on having a great car. More people should be driving electric.
Will you be improving the aerodynamics?
(Light covers, Wheel skirts, Underbody panel, etc)

I am planning aero-improvements, but want to take care of general battery/range issues first.
I did have a partial belly pan on there, more for engine compartment salt-water protection than anything. The long term plan will have a belly pan, and maybe a front air dam. I like the idea of aero-ing the headlights too.

Thanks for the response.
I understand completely.
What made you choose the Metro
instead of a car with a better CD?
(honda hatch)

The Metro looked nice, I got a good deal on it, and aerodynamics aren't THAT important when you are driving in mostly 25 mph zones.
Metros are far cheaper than Hondas too. With a bigger budget, a Honda CRX or All-Electric Insight would be a FANTASTIC project!

If it goes 60 mph at 96 volts it should do around 75 mph at 120 volts! That would be sooo nice!!

Yep! Somebody pointed out to me that I will have to start modifying the aerodynamics if I am doing these speeds!
