  • Congratulations on having a great car. More people should be driving electric.

Will you be improving the aerodynamics?

(Light covers, Wheel skirts, Underbody panel, etc)

  • I am planning aero-improvements, but want to take care of general battery/range issues first.

I did have a partial belly pan on there, more for engine compartment salt-water protection than anything. The long term plan will have a belly pan, and maybe a front air dam. I like the idea of aero-ing the headlights too.

  • Thanks for the response.

    I understand completely.

What made you choose the Metro

instead of a car with a better CD?

    (honda hatch)

  • The Metro looked nice, I got a good deal on it, and aerodynamics aren't THAT important when you are driving in mostly 25 mph zones.

Metros are far cheaper than Hondas too. With a bigger budget, a Honda CRX or All-Electric Insight would be a FANTASTIC project!

  • If it goes 60 mph at 96 volts it should do around 75 mph at 120 volts! That would be sooo nice!!

  • Yep! Somebody pointed out to me that I will have to start modifying the aerodynamics if I am doing these speeds!

  • Yup thats just how I did it. Chopped a hole under the rear seat and stuck 4 more g31s in there. I has 10 total in my Geo. Burned rubber in 3 gears. =)

  • man thats awesome..is there a website u know of to explain to me exactly how to hook up thecontroller and motor and potentiometer and etc..like,beside the schematic cuz i cant really read that,ya know(or understand it)or could u maybe explain it to me in more detail?is there a way i can give my e-mail without everyone getting it?

  • Also, what is your range now that youve added more batteries?

What is your estimated range for the additional batteries?

  • You have advanced brushes, right? Also, do you have an emergency disconnect on your car (like one attached to the clutch pedal)?

  • Love this project Ben. But a good idea to make gearchangeing easy is to put a oneway bearing between the motor and transmission so the car freewheels when you let of the accelerator. I would love to see someone try that.
