His name is Miles Todd and he did survive.
The crash was at the Carrizo Gorge on new years day 2004, he fell about 150 feet and incredibly was able to climb back up to his bike and was able to cycle the 10 miles back to the cars!
The only bone he broke was in his finger! (though he had many sprains, bruises and cuts).
Lucky (or not so lucky) guy!
