the fmj still did pretty well for a non expanding roung. Big bullets obviously are less dependent on expansion like we've heard. Got to love those big .45 slugs

@SwiftSilentDedly0321 The boxes those rounds came out of were marked "JHP" and "FMJ" which are common abbreviations for "Jacketed Hollow Point" and "Full Metal Jacket."
Read the Wikipedia entry for Hollow-point_bullet and be educated.
The "steel coat" that you refer to sounds a bit like a "steel penetrator" employed in some bullet designs.

the newer hollowpoints have no problems with penetration or expansion. newton said, force = mass x acceleration. ammo that delivers all of that force to the target rather much of it beyond it should be what you look for. it's a balance. no ammo is perfect. find one that cycles well in your firearm and delivers as much energy as you can accurately put on target in a reasonable amount if time and practice.

how much penetration do you need? in most calibers, an fmj of any weight will go right through most people. distance traveled beyond your target is wasted energy. I'd much rather a bullet spend all of it's energy in the target. I put a 165gr .40 hp (federal hst) through a side of wild pig ribs, 2 layers of cotton, and all the way through 12 inches of ballistic gelatin. and it doubled it's diameter, stared, and corkscrewed in the process. a true horror show. the newer hollowpoints have no proble
