Can someone elaborate on how they interpreted this film? I find it beautiful and very interesting to watch -- but I'm not sure if I understand all of the symbolism.
What does the hallucinogenic fish represent?
does this film mean that even something destructive can produce some form of innocent life? Do the children represent nature taking back Chernobyl, despite physical barriers?
Help me analyze folks!

@AlterDimensions 'Anything to raise awareness' - ? WTF is that? This cartoon does not evoke the feelings that local people had and have still! Ugly smile of Bosch...

Just saw this film at The LIAF, I think you guys did a really good job. Visually it was stunning (especially the scene with the fish and when they see their "mother") and you showed an empathy for the characters which is so important when dealing with such a sensitive subject. I look forward to seeing more from you all. Good luck with the future :)

Shock value? Things lose their shock value after 25 years. & everyone who knew anything about Chernobyl knew about the Cherno Kids long before this film was made. It IS good quality. It DOES have a story. Maybe your problem is that you have no sympathy for their point of view or you selfishly believe that people not from the countries effected have no right to express their feelings about it. Which is just mentally unstable. They have meds for that now, ya know.

...will result in some people donating or trying to help in some way the people still affected by it & the people that remained in or returned to Wolves Land despite the likelihood that it would make them sick. This film struck me more as a tribute or memorial. Certainly nothing negative or offensive. It reveals to people the Cherno Kids' point of view, the most innocent of the victims.

I plan to ask someone from Kiev that clearly remembers the Cherny disaster & has raised much awareness about it if this offends her as well. Regardless of her answer, I would like to point out now that you should reconsider your perspective on this short film as it helps to raise awareness. & anything that raises awareness of any of the tragedies that occurred as a result of Chernobyl...
I suspect some subtleties may be lost in translation, but in response to yureeka - my interpretation is that the children must live in an orphanage. They've grown to consider the Chernobyl reactor as their "mother" as they are aware of their deformities and associate them with it. They imagine the whole reactor core battle scenario (which explains the change in animation style, and the super-hero powers). Obviously the children are expressing normal childhood frustrations with controlling adult

@evinmanp spot on. Sorry if it isn't more obvious. Also, this short is about resilience, the way (mostly) children fight back after a traumatic experience, in our case, turning their handicap and lives into a childhood fantasy. And yeah, it's not in everyone's taste, but it was a _student_ film, no more, no less.

@chernokids sorry, but this is a real bullshit. I hope you'll never make movies, shorts, animation and anything again.
