In the heart of the Var region, between the Verdon Canyon and Mediterranean the Chateau Roubine vineyards are set on the Julian Way, dating back to Roman times. First mentioned in archives in the early 14th century, the Chateau was donated to the order of St Jean of Jerusalem by the knights Templar in 1307. Over the 15th century, Ch Roubine was the proud property of several of Provences most influential families. The Chateau now covers 270 acres, 173 of which are planted with vines. In 1994 the French fencing champion and his local born wife Valerie fell in love with and purchased the property. Todays bottle aptly reflects the Chateaux rich history, the glass is adorned with the Templar coat of arms, featuring a dragon and a lion protected by the suns rays, respectively symbolising the historic Provencal towns of Draguignan and Lorgues. The vineyard is planted with 13 different varieties and has an ideal east-west exposure. The soil is chalky clay and there is a natural water table - Roubine means stream in Provencal dialect. Classified as one of only 13 Cru Classe properties in the Cotes de Provence, the Roses here are benchmark for the appellation.
