Space: 1999 original spacesuit costume

A short film showcasing my original studio costume from the 1970s Gerry Anderson television series Space: 1999. This is suit number 4 worn by various actors, but did seem to occasionally include Barry Morse, Catherine Schell and possibly Prentis Hancock. It's a bit on the small size but luckily I can just get into it.
It was on display to the public for many years in Blackpool and Alton Towers (UK) before being sold in a pretty dirty and poor condition - although it has cleaned up rather well for something that is 35+ years old.

nice catch! i used to love space: 1999 but i've only got a couple old comics and a t-shirt.

i'm curious to ask what you paid but i won't. i'm guessing if it used to be a museum piece i imagine it was pretty pricy, even if it was in fix-it-up condition.

anyway, thanks for sharing that. little trip down memory lane.

I bought it nearly 20 years ago now, so I'm not too sure - I just remember that it was rather expensive.

It was actually very filthy so I had to wash it 3 times - unfortunately when I put it in the wash tub it absorbed all the water, so I had to fill the bath to wash it in!!

WOW!!! That is a superb original item to own. Thanks for taking the time to put a very professional little piece together. It was great seeing those indivudal parts all get the coverage they did too along with the commentary as well. Classic stuff!!

I've just started watching the series since it aired the first time. It was my favorite science fiction TV show while growing up along with Star Trek TOS. Thank you for showing this! I'd love to make one for a Halloween costume someday.

Ok now i am offically impressed!! How did you get your hands on that!!! Thank you for sharing this. Really interesting to see what the actors and actresses had to wear. Am suprised the suit is not padded on the inside more but i guess they had to make it wearable and give space for the actors to do their stuff in! Pity your video is not in an extras section of the DVD boxset for Space 1999, that would be a real treat for fans! :)

Awesome space suit. I have made a few helmets out of a thin but dense cardboard. After coated with a polyurethane its as hard as plastic. then I cut and use Plexiglas to make the face shield.

Thanks for posting this very detailed video. Space: 1999 has a nostalgic place in my heart. I'm still a fan of all the fabulous art direction of this production.
