  • Why are transformers used if this circuit is probably cheapier to make?

  • Because transformers transform voltage and current. This circuit doesn't do that, and it is very inefficient.

The challenge was not to make something most efficient. The UJT works in this ciruit by shorting alternately across the + and - rails, which means it is always drawing current. A more efficient solution would use an open source or open drain fet and thus draw current only when the LED was lit.

  • I've never seen a unijunction relaxation oscillator that would operate on as little as 3.3v. Also, you shouldn't tell amateur experimenters to build circuits without a line isolation transformer. You may contribute to a serious injury or death. There's a distinct relationship between "hot," "neutral," and "ground" that should be explained before anyone eliminates such a transformer. Even your brief, erroneous reference to "white as hot" (3:54) is enough to get someone killed.

  • Oh ok, thanks!

  • Hi sir,

About the UJT do you have a part number for it..

I'm a beginner in electronic and I want to make a little program from 24VAC. current to make the 2 LEDs in series to Fade in and Out !

Can you help me please ?

Can you calculate the Resistors and Capacitors needed for this project ?

From the current I would place a Rectifier Bridge to get DC current !

    Thanks,

    Vitaluminus
