Because they are singing "thee" is what is throwing some people off. It's not about "we" in that respect. Certainly not from the lyrics of the song, I think they are reflecting exactly what God's Word is telling his people.

really? are you reading the lyrics right? im pretty sure the song exalts the Father. Its a freaking Hymnal dude. Its actually a pretty humble song... i dont know where you got the idea of how it focuses on us? Jesus, I my cross have taken.

Nice tune, but why do the words focus on what WE do? Shouldn't it focus on what our Savior did for us? That's the most important part... we wouldn't be singing or listening to any of these songs if it weren't for His sacrifice. It talks about the troubles that we endure, as if they were as noble and meaningful as what Christ did for us.

I like the words in this hymn. May it be true in our lives.

could you share the chords? this is beautiful
Exalting the Father and Son involves more than just singing words. This song is talking about taking up the cross to follow Jesus, something He commanded believers to do.
Read the lyrics. This song is about how trials and suffering bring us closer to Christ. This song is not exalting OUR suffering, but identifying that Christ went through the same, and much more.
The natural response from a proper appreciation of the cross is expressed through this song.

Great song. It is a little heavier than most worship songs but both heavy and light worship songs can glorify the father if they are rooted in truth
