In this series of 3 short clips, I'm talking about the component musical parts of 'Road To Reno' one of the songs from my EP 'Amerikana', explaining how it was put together in ProTools. If you want to download the EP, you should go to my web site thomasdolby.com, and sign up as a member of my fan community The Flat Earth Society.

  • Nice. One of the most influential events in my professional life was the chance to mix America's 2" 16 track master of Ventura Highway at the 1974 AES Convention in L.A. (when it was still at the Hilton).. Opened my 18-year-old eyes to a world of artistic possibilities, and inspired a life of audio.

  • Wow, the horns, guitar and piano sound even better on their own! This way, we can appreciate how good the individual 'components' themselves sound [please excuse my lack of knowledge of musical terminology: I'm a geek--I build

computers, not music, ha ha]. You and your fellow musicians are sure a talented

bunch! Great dissection, Thomas, thank you. It's also nice to know that's it's warm enough aboard the Nutmeg to wear shorts. ;)

  • opening riffs are armstrong, not knopler? good to know. -- chopped up riffs, not dedicated echoes? also nice to have it pointed out. -- bass line illumination? my ears are tuned in now. -- thanks again, TD!
