Southwark Playhouse: Inspired by the picnic, held in Parliament Square between 2005 and 2007, the action unfolds against a world of ongoing natural disasters, countless public riots, the introduction of capital punishment for terrorists and temperatures reaching 42 degree. Boiling Frogs pits a small group of imaginative citizens against the system as, armed only with fancy dress, blank banners and a keen eye for semantics, they attempt to re-claim freedom of speech for all. Boiling Frogs is the first full length new play to be developed, workshopped and produced by The Factory. Written by Associate Member Steven Bloomer, directed by Founding Member and Artistic Director Alex Hassel, and performed by a revolving cast of nine Factory actors, the play pays homage to the company's unique artistic ambitions whilst offering audiences a brand new production with a completely different performance quaranteed every single night.... Boiling Frogs is Steven's first full-length play. He wrote the first draft in July 2006. Since then his short play, YOU WERE AFTER POETRY, was performed at the Hightide Festival and published by Oberon. He has written a play for Guildford School of Acting, FIRST THEY SLAUGHTERED THE ANGELS, alongside short pieces for Paines Plough, Open Arts Cafe, and the Factory's Rounds One, Two and 50/50. Last year he won the inaugural Adrienne Benham award from Theatre Center. He has been a member of Paines Plough's Future Perfect and the Royal Court Young Writer's Program. Steven is also an actor in the Factory.

The play was followed by Nafeez Mohammed Ahmed, who focused on how acceleration and convergence of global ecological, energy and economic crises is driving Western goverments to 'militarise' society towards 'police-state' politics.
