@Arenalgarden Why should I buy a new computer when my wife wife just wants a computer that she watch movies on, you tube, and facebook. I'm not into giving money away when there is a perfectly good operating system that foes just that. Love Debian baby
-
@bfis108137 I suggest gainful employment or, possibly, searching a landfill for more up to date hardware. LOL
-
@Arenalgarden Debian is the best distro out for older hardware that isn't ancient. I have a Celeron with 512 MB ram. True that Ubintu's min reqs are 512 mb ram just like mine but Debian will run much lighter and will allow me to do things like flash and movies smoothly. None of the other distros out there will do that. They are either too limited like vector, puppy, or DSL or they take up too many resources like suse, Ubuntu, and Fedora.

With the advent of Ubuntu, Mint and all of the other takeoffs pure Debian is useless for anything but a server. The clowns running it, led by the bathless wonder, Stillman, make it ridiculously time consuming to set up as a desktop.
Fonts, sound codecs, printing, Java. Just plain stupid. A true desktop is loaded up and works with 90% of the hardware out there.
If it weren't for the 'buntus I'd be in Salix or Vector full time.
Mint LMDE is the one to run.Clem already did all of the work for you.

this isnt a review, its a demo. where is the analysis and criticism and lauding? where is the pro/con laydown? where is the overall evaluation of the OS? come on dude...

Am downloading Debian KDE, mainly because I like the KDE thing more than Gnome. They're both good though. And is it me or does Debian let you do more with your system than Ubuntu etc?
