  • "what weight should the dumbbells have?" they should be light like 5KG, maybe under if you are weaker! Try it with a 1KG bag of sugar if you never lifted anything in your life. This is the one exercise that has me grimacing when I do it... thats what you want to get bigger though, weights that make you cringe like Arnie doing his dumbbell flys :)

    It doesn't stunt growth. But squats and deadlifts compress the goo between your vertebrae. It won't cause any long term damage but you might find that a week out of the gym gives you an extra 1/3 of an inch or something. Spinal compression happens throughout any normal day anyway. It's just normally imperceptable as most people don't actually weigh so much.
