This dog does look really sad and like, "whatever" because no one pays attention to him so he has learned that when one of his human caretakers interacts with him, it is not going to lead to more play or exercise. The chain is very bothersome to me as well, poor thing.

Canines, the dog genome are naturally social for example Wolves. Wolves are also what is believed to be the domestic dogs ancestor. It is believed they came to humans for easy food and humans took advantage of it and used them for hunting and domesticated wolves got a share of meet so it was mutually beneficial. Also domestic dogs still interact it does not necessarily have to other dogs. The way you talk makes us believe every dog likes being locked in a cage with no food or animal contact.

My dog used to get that excited when i came home that it would literally piss itself as it jumped excitedly around me with it's tail wagging crazily about and a big smile on her face.
