A ballistic missile from a foreign enemy would take 33 minutes to reach the United States. With each passing day, this becomes a growing danger to America, yet our government has failed to build the missile defense systems capable of defending us against such attacks.

The time has come to revive the strategic missile defense system that America uniquely can develop, maintain, and employ for its own defense and the peace-loving world's security.

This documentary, from The Heritage Foundation, aims to do just that by highlighting the disastrous consequences of a nuclear explosion on American soil - one that could happen in just 33 minutes.

  • Kashmarek - Theater of fear by Republicans?? Hmmm. Obama goes out everyday with a new (or embellished) story in hopes of scaring us into supporting his plans. For example - the story of a man dying due to loss of ins. A false story - man recvd. stem cell transplant on his ins. plan - died down the road (with his same ins. plan) from disease. Scare tactics are being used on a regular basis by this administration. Speaking of thugs - SCIU, ACORN & of course the Black Panthers at the voting booth.

  • I remember when the left concocted the infamous "nuclear nightmare" countdown clock with Ronald Reagan's face in the center. The anti-Reagan scare hysteria promoted by the film "The Day After" When all is said and done, it was Reagan's committment to nuclear defense is what kept us safe for so many years. The left was always paranoid about America's nuclear arms build up. Now we have maniacs in N. Korea and Iran with Nuclear weapons and threatening to use them and barely a peep from the left.

  • Anyone know where I can watch this?

  • @lastdamnwordleft Also our government does not look for reasons to go to war. Although we got into a war in Iraq (probably ill-advised) we, like the rest of the world not only thought they had W.M.D., we had tried other means (17 U.N. resolutions) and over a decade of sanctions. If we wanted to attack them, there would have been no Iraq war, the gulf war would have just gone on longer and we wouldn't have stopped till we got to Bagdad and Sadam was turning into a smoking crater!

  • @lastdamnwordleft Also the other threats, the cheaper alternatives, we can guard against relatively cheaply. The main problem with these threats (the boat, plane, truck laden with WMDs) is we don't know they're coming. This is an intelegence problem. If we know they are coming we have ways to stop them. Even if we know a missle attack is coming, right now we have no way to stop it (unless the military has a few surprises!) BTW M.A.D. doesn't work non fanatics like North Korea and Iran.

  • @lastdamnwordleft,

So by that logic, no one should wear bullet proof vests, because they are expensive and they are easy to get around (A headshot.) No, SDI won't stop every threat, but it would stop one kind of threat, a very real threat, not to mention none of our enemies have anything close to SDI, nor would they for years if not decades to come. If it's taken us this long to get it working, imagine how long it would take the Chinese to make an effective copy.

  • I'm sure this has been stated in the past, but a starwars defense system will only force our enemy to deliver weapons in ways that SDI cannot protect against. Putting a WMD on a boat, truck, or airplane is a better and cheaper alternative to missile delivery. Once thoroughly considered, it turns out that SDI is only effective as an extremely expensive offensive weapon, not defensive. It would also remove disincentives for war by our government.
