Brian, thank you for this pilot chute packing method. Not only does this work to keep from having your pilot chute locked but it also can't be done unless you have cocked your pilot chute. No more wondering if you've cocked the pilot chute;)

I'm doing my 1st tandem jump 9-18-11 one day before my 63 birthday and last week I got a tutorial on packing a chute I was telling the instructor how you packed the pilot chute.I really enjoy you and your wife's videos.

Great video, it all makes so much sense.

I'm adding this to my favorite so I can refer to it once I finish my AFF . Will see if my coaches use this too.
* Just noticed you're based literally right down the road form where I live lol. Maybe see you at orange :D

Thanks for this vid. I plan to use this method for packing the reserve on an upcoming remote-control powered parachute project. It's essentially the same size and build as a pilot chute so it should work fine.

Ah_Sooo... That's why someone showed me that way. I was wondering why he did it that way.

Thanks, Brian for sharing your experience..

Great Brian!!! Thanks! :)))))))))))))
Hi "sweatykev01",
Unless you are really high and very experienced, leave your hook knife in the pocket unless there is no other option. Try throwing the pilot-chute first. If you can't get it out, then just chop. There is a pretty good chance it will clear anyway. Hopefully you helped an old person across the street that day and earned some karma points...

what kind of container is that?

That is a Vector 3 Miron with a skyhook.

You showed me this in 2003, and I've done it since, just with my own twist. One point you told me but excluded here is that with the main parachute out of the container, the BOC is no longer where it was. You may not be able to quickly find the handle on the loose flap!

Very true! Thanks for adding that!

Very nice, Brian. I've been packing my pilot chute the way you showed NOT to since I started skydiving. I never realized that it created more potential for bunch ups the way it does. I will be switching to your technique ASAP!
Thanks again. Oh, and the old skysurfing and freefly footage was awesome!
