O'Thompson Relay Logic Controllers are still in use today. They are durable and require minimal care. They are by far one of my favorite controller to work with. In this video I will quickly demonstrate
a sequence of operation.

Thank you for that wonderful comment. I will agree that the microprocessors are easier to replace rather than 1000 relays but it not as exciting as following the blueprint and hunting down that one failed contact. Repairing, testing and returning to service. PC boards on the other hand? Either read Pass or fail. Toss it . Replace it . No repair.

Thank you for that great question. I am currently on a route which is comprised of mostly winding drum machines. Drums wind and unwind like thread on a spool.
Unfortunately it can continue to wind ( Going into the overhead ) until a rope snaps unless something tells it to stop ( machine limits ). A traction machine will allow the rope to slip if it this were to happen and should continue to spin ( slipping traction ) without further lifting. In my opinion are safer by design.

You are quite welcome. I am glad you are enjoying them. I will try to cover many different topics of the Elevator World and believe me there are many. If you have any suggestion please feel free to ask. John Fellin

why would this be considered dangerous??

@dieselducy
Great to hear from you. Hope all is well.
Old drums if continue to unwind can start winding in the opposite direction leading to catastrophic damages. A basement traction provides slippage and therefore safer.

What happened at the end? It sounds like it malfunctioned.

Thank you for your question,
No malfunction. Certain things are inherent with controllers. They all seem to have a personality of their own.
