Simulating Super 8mm film with Nikon D90 source video. I used Adobe Premiere 6 to edit and add contrast and film grain. I use Photoshop 7 to create Alpha channel masks for vignetting and dust.

  • The music is too epic. This is not the heroic death of Maximus Decimus Meridius - it's children playing. Try a less pretentious, warmer, more personal choice of music:-) Just my input.

  • @webmatros I agree to some extent. If you haven't scene Gladiator, it might take on a different sort of feeling. You tube has been bugging me to change it. I mostly use my own recordings. Thanks for watching!

  • What a beautiful memory film, the kids are great! Did you have to do anything to get the film into Premiere. I tried to get my footage into Premiere pro 1.5, but was unable

  • @pjwheelr Thanks! There are a few tricks to get video into Premiere that I know of. The first one is, change the File Extension to .MPG if it's .AVI. No idea why that works but it does. If Premiere genuinely can't decode the video format you're using, then you'll have to convert it. The best and fastest program I've found is Avidemux. It's free and is pretty powerful. I export to an MJPEG codec in an AVI container but still rename the converted files to a .MPG extension. I hope that hopes.

  • really good work, allthough you can see "rolling shutter" effects which shows that it's not really super 8 :)

Anyway, you did one hell of a good job on creating the filmlook! Respect!!

  • @KRAFTWERK2K6 I upgraded to the D7000 - it shows much less rolling shutter than the D90. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try another pass at a video collage like this, minus the rolling-shutter. So far, the biggest hurdle is getting a good work-flow. I don't have anything to edit .MOV files and conversion is slow and degrades the quality.

  • Well done, I like it. It takes a little thought to get the feel of good videos bringing emotions into view. Good job...

  • @christiancamilo There are a few things at play that make this look like film. The first is a shallow depth-of-field. Second is frame rate - shot at 24 frames per second but played back at 12. Anything 24 FPS will "move" like film. Use no Sharpening effect on your footage. I added specks of dust and noise in Adobe Premiere. Any DSLR camera with video capability will let you make stuff like this.

  • it is so colourful, and calming - thanks for the post

  • @randytate Now We Are Free track

  • It's from the movie soundtrack Gladiator. I believe it's the Honor Him track. Thanks.
