  • But where is the intercepting?

  • @fcvt

We use the term intercept to mean to catch/stop an incoming blow before it lands on the intended target.

Notice when the pad holder comes in for an uppercut, the counterstriker uses his forearm to stop the blow before he delivers his own chong choy.

    Regards

  • are the mechanics of ur chun choy same as wing chun or different

  • I have not done WC so I cannot comment on the similarities or differences of the technique.

However the BM Chong Choy is executed like so (say your opponent is throwing a right hook): step charge, intercept and trap the incoming strike with your right bridge in a small ccw motion, and as you press forward you deliver with your left P/E an "uppercut" to the opponent. This is all done with the principals of chum (sink) and fau (float) respectively.

  • @sylvester134 WC wouldn't use 2 beats just one.Simultanious attack and defend with foward motion.

  • Somehow The center line attack have similarity as wing chun movement. The body movement is more fluid here..

  • bak mei pre-dates Wing chun and the two are of the same linage. at least that's what my Bak Mei practitoner friend said.

they train in sussex st ( north end of chinatown, Sydney )

  • it is a fine demonstration of pak mei application with the sinking and floating, lower body cross defense and rising attacks.

    it is good stuff

  • Very nice. I'm happy to see the old school is alive and well.

I really miss you guys. I hope it will be alright if I drop by the new school one of these days.

    Take Care

  • Also understand that this is a drill to improve on the single technique of Chong Choy.

Hence no follow up of the traditional 2-3 additional strikes inherent in Bak Mei (ie. we are not focusing on the tiger, but are sharpening the claws). We have different exercises for the "full focus" of Bak Mei.

    Final food for thought:

"Fear not the man that practices one-hundred different techniques once. Beware the practitioner that practices one technique one-hundred times."

  • No offence taken.

    Remember the Bak Mei verbage:

Baat Ding Bat Baat Gee Ma Bou, Lay Bat Loy See, Ngor Baat Faat.

I have no set stance, You do not attack, I do not engage.

    Thank you for your views.

    Regards.
