I left the old fort town of Hondarribia and crossed the cove.

At the far end of Hendaye beach, past a hilltop, angel-white chateau, I came upon some WWII Nazi bunkers that had been left for the salt air to rot. I entered one-- and yes, it felt oppressively evil.

Coming off the cliffs, I photographed a father teaching his little boy to fly a kite-- and thought of our children, 'Given our violent past, what will be their future?' -- CJM 2008
