By fan request, here's the UNC Clef Hangers performing Josh Groban/Dave Matthews "Lullabye" with soloist Ryan White, at their 2008 Spring Concert in Chapel Hill. This was a very emotional, heart-wrenching tribute song to 3 Clef 'family' members taken from us too early, and it was difficult for these men to sing through their very fresh, recent grief...

  • can anyone explain the story for me?

so sorry for the losses. truly.

  • Sure-thanks for asking. Bradley King was a Clef in the mid-90's, and died in a car accident 12 years ago. Lynda Malone was the mother of Ned Malone (Clef '06), and a huge supporter and "mom" to the whole group. She died from cancer a little over a year ago. Eve Carson, UNC student body president, was viciously murdered near campus just over a year ago(5 weeks before this concert). She was a tremendous fan, known by all and a personal friend of many in the group.

  • The Clefs sang this song at Eve's impromptu prayer vigil on campus the evening of the day we all learned of her murder, so it's still very raw on their hearts and it was very difficult at the concert for these men to sing through their sadness - they're still grieving. The Clefs set aside 3 empty seats in the front row at the concert, to signify that all 3 loved ones were there with them in spirit. It was a very touching part of the evening, and it's why I left in more at the end of the clip.

  • This is beautiful.. So sad about Eve. She seems like a wonderful person.

Were some of the boys close to her? Especially Anoop? I saw some of them consoling him near the end. :(

  • They all knew her, and several were particularly close to her, Anoop included - she was a great friend and a huge fan - always in the front row. They sand "Carolina In My Mind" at her memorial service and it was one of the sweetest and yet most diffucult things to lsiten to.

  • Question: Is there a trick to playing the videos without the starting and stopping? It is so annoying and I am new to doing this and I would like to hear the songs without the interruptions. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • I'm guessing it's because the video is playing faster than your ISP/modem/computer is downlaoding the song... Try this: when you select a song to watch, as soon as it starts playing hit the pause button and wait for the 'red bar' across the bottom of the video to reach the right hand side, then hit pause again to restart the video. I have to do this when I play videos in 'high quality' because that loads slower. Try it and let me know.

  • i cried too. the original version didn't even make me tear up. i think especially after knowing the backstory and understanding how fresh their loss is, makes it so much more meaningful.
