ANNA BONITATIBUS - Mezzosoprano

G.F. Handel: Giulio Cesare in Egitto
René Jacobs, Freiburger Barockorchester

Aria of SESTO
*********
Svegliatevi nel core,
furie d'un alma offesa,
a far d'un traditor
aspra vendetta!

L'ombra del genitore
accorre a mia difesa,
e dice: a te il rigor,
Figlio si aspetta.
*********
Wake within my breast,
furies of a wounded soul,
to wreak bitter vengance
upon a traitor!

My father's shade
hastens to my defence,
saying, "My son, from you
severity is expected."
********

I've uploaded 3 of Anna's great Sesto arias

  • Precious. Gudrun, thanks for the posting. Could you please also upload the Cara speme?

I wonder if it is still possible for one to download the whole recording (from the radio broadcast)...

  • @yuelang: I've searched and searched, unfort. my old hard drive has crashed meanwhile -> can't upload Cara Speme, sorry.

Such a pity that Anna B. does still not have a baroque solo CD, she is for me the most underestimated baroque mezzo queen (-> her Come Nembo or Agitata da due venti!). Let's keep on hoping and waiting ...

  • I found out about Bonitatibus two weeks ago and love everything she sings from Rossini, Handel, Vivaldi, etc. She is so incredibly versatile and talented.

Thanks for posting this video. Her Sesto is awesome.

  • Welcome to the club! Before this year, I had heard of Anna only in non-baroque. Finding her singing Handel and Vivaldi was a beautiful discovery for me, too. If you like her virtuosic singing, check Handel's "Come Nembo" (2 versions on youtube and one of the best da capos I've heard in my life). Then Vivaldi's "Agitata da due venti", where even die-hard-Bartoli fans praised her. She's incredibly agile and can get so fiery.

  • Have you heard Lorraine Hunt's brilliant rendition of Sesto? I'm sure she'd make it into your fav club of sestos :)
