for some great vids on cabo verde:
http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=amilcargarciatorres

ok i would like to make it clear to everyone that I believe in democracy, as does the cape verdian politician/member of the establishment who gave me this cd. the question of democracy in africa and in most of the world is however an issue we still need to debate.

i have not studied anything about cabo verde and dont pretend to be an expert.

Diogo Gomes was a portuguese discoverer.
Craveiro Lopes was one of our fascist presidents.
Pepe Lopi and Inacia Gomes are Cape Verdian national singers who profoundly marked the independence generation.

Dimokransa stands for a neologism made from the words "democracy" and "fools".

hope you like the vid.

  • translation is all wrong guys. i'm a native speaker...

  • yes i admit i didnt trranslate all that literally. para bo entendedor.. etc

  • I'm glad you translated this song, because it speaks about the Cape Verde that is very successful but yet loosing its culture. Traditionally cape verdean culture is about sharing, giving, equality, simplicity...but as you can imagine now everything is centered around money, no more values like the old days...we forgot Pepe Lopi, there are more monuments to diogo gomes and the colonial powers and hardly no monuments honoring Pepe Lopi and the revolutionaries.

  • thank you. it was well meant :D

  • to continue...but what is foolish is that in this process of democracy, the old values, the history of the African independence movement has been lost...today in Cape Verde there are leaning towards European union special membership etc etc, things that loose the nation's focus on its cultural morals.

  • well all i can say is that this could be made in afganistan or kazakistan or romenia or poland or 1975s portugal. every culture has its own ideological stock its own civilizational background its own etc and we should think about alternative models of democracy. well for me democracy is not the vote in itself but the existence of effective channels of communication between different social agents... and there are many ways to do that i believe.

  • I loved this "morna" by Meyra Andrade.

Just for information: Craveiro Lopes, was not "one of our fascist presidents" His anti-colonial acts was so forceful for the regime, which even today his name is remembered in the former colonial territories. In Cape Verde, Cidade da Praia, that the president visited in 1954, still exists today, the "Bairro Craveiro Lopes" with great pride of the population.

  • @madbcc bu fadja nha boy mou traduçao

  • Adorei!

  • cv meu amor... qnta sdd!

  • Cape Verdean have been airing their ggrievances since the beginning. We are talking about the type of democracy the type that ruins the environment, culture all in the name of capitalism. Men living free, peacful, and healthy has nothing to do with "democracy", "communism", "socialism", colonialism, propganda etc.

  • Ouvi esta música num video, não conhecia a Mayra Andrade mas acho que fiquei fã... Adorei!

  • so sei que inacia gomes e considerada a melhor batucadeira de cabo verde. os outros nao sei

"Craveiro Lopes was one of our fascist presidents."

"Pepe Lopi and Inacia Gomes are Cape Verdian national singers who profoundly marked the independence generation."
