Hello friends and subscribers of the channel CDMagz.
I combined a couple of videos here, from the past few months, and it is all about Ukkie the little hedgehog, who I saw in the garden during wintertime, in clear daylight, in the snow, between the birds. So I took him inside. He didn't want to eat and was 220 grams at some point. 10 days of forcefeeding, medication of all kinds and than he started eating again, fortunately.
And yesterday he was: 954 grams!!! Wow, the name Ukkie means: little one,... but I should change his name now, haha. Within a few weeks he should go outside again, have to let him get used to the garden again, and make his own place, before he can go for the big hedgehogworld, wherein a lot of dangers for them and difficulties, mostly caused by people.
Like the cars, a lot of them find their death that way.
And also we don't have so many friendly gardens anymore, it is all stone, or closed gardens, so that they cannot find food properly. And than places with water, where they can fall in (they don't see well) and cannot get out, because there is now place to climb to the side of it.
I hope this video is giving you a little more info about the hedgehog, which are protected animals in the Netherlands. We are not allowed to keep them as a pet, and that is good. But they need our help because half the population is gone since a few years.
I can tell you, that I had much help from shelters.
The Squawlady from the UK and Marleen of the shelter: Dikke Prik here in the Netherlands. Without their help I really couldn't have managed to take care of Ukkie this way.

I hope you like the video, and also the music, which I improvised on my Wersi Atlantis.

  • @4DRY4N And my dear AD it is great to do this. I gave up hope once that he had lost 100 grams (from 320 to 220) but he manages, and is now : "Hollands Welvaren" :-)

  • @hojofan It is such a joy to do things like these. Ukkie is doing great and loves to be outside. He visits every night. 1 month ago he was in a barn for 4 nights, I had put his nest in it. And I was so surprised, he was back 2 nights ago, and also last night! :-) He takes some rest in the nest so now and than and eats there also, so he still knows he is very welcome! Thank you for your kind words! Roeleke (you can see him now at my catseyes4you channel!) Roeleke
