The song was written by Pete Lund, a Portland resident. He says, "I was inspired by the mythological connection between the local time and temperature telephone service and the illuminated Time and Temperature Building sign which is viewable from many parts of the city."

The Pete Lund Trio is Pete Lund, brother Alfred Lund, and Todd Arvidson. All three are from Maine.
