Dr. Gori, a former top official at the US National Cancer Institute, explains why the alleged dangers of Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) are an emperor with no cloths.

International Conference "Thinking is forbidden", Brussels 27/28 January 2009 (originally: "Smoking Bans and Lies", organized by The International Coalition against Prohibition).

  • @trahim2 You do understand the tobacco companies advocate against themselves? This man has linked a Facebook page that I am familiar with, and they are quite non bias there, I'd be heart pressed to believe this man is being paid to say something, though it is possible, just not likely. If you'd like to talk about being paid to say or manipulate something, you'd better check out our governments research on tobacco. I think they have more issues with bribing than Dr.Gori.

  • @Kinesis17 you're right. However you have to question Dr. Gori's motives. It is very rare that you would find a clinician advocating smoking. I would not be surprised if he was being paid by the industry or is having his research lab sponsored by them.

  • Clear and elegant reasoning. Thank you sir.

  • @trahim2 Nobody is saying smoking is perfect. It certainly isn't, it just isn't even clsoe to as harmful as people believe. I mean is a pipe every couple of days going to kill me?

  • @kaferere It is possible to live a long life and be a smoker, but it is very rare. Lung cancer occurs as a result of mutations to very specific genes - such as epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). Since mutations occur randomly when you inhale the carcinogens in cigarretes, and because the genome is so big, it is unlikely you hit the vital gene to cause cancer. However, after decades of smoking your odds are pretty good of finally hitting the right gene.

  • At last, a logical and reasoned account. The explanations given by the medical profession regarding smoking related diseases have always been based on myth and repetition in my opinion. If one points to a 97 yr old life-long smoker, the medics tell you that they are different or special. I've never believed it. A different diet, maybe. Dr. Gori, thank you, but please will you now look into the very model of cancer? There is something deeply, deeply wrong. It's a rain dance. Thank you again.
