  • what's the real reasoning behind rejecting the null hypothesis if the p-value is lower than the alpha value.

  • @yardconnec1 Yes, if P is less than alpha, we reject. The reasoning behind it is because the alpha is our rejection amount. Anything within that rejection amount will be rejected. The P-value is our testing amount. So, if P is within (less than) alpha we will reject. If P is greater than alpha then part of the P is outside of the rejection amount and therefore in the non-rejection amount, so we fail to reject the null.

  • @sco40 We are rejecting the null, because this is a test (as all hypothesis tests are) of the null hypothesis. When I state the interpretation, it says as much. Try paying closer attention. :)

Oh, by the way, u is a letter...you is a pronoun.

  • i don't quite understand step 4, if 3.15 is greater than the value given in the chart shouldn't you just reject it instead of trying to find the rough p-value?

  • @hoogiechugie We could just reject, because we know that we have a large t-value. However, doing the p-value approach, gives us the probability of the test statistic. It gives us a specific amount of evidence against the null.

  • Thanks for helping me out with this and btw you are very cute :)

  • I'm in Statistical Methods 3 and I was couldn't figure out how to find the p-value. You saved my life!!! Thank you sooooo much :o)

  • wow....my professor took 3 days to teach us this, and I swear that I just now understand it after watching this video. Thank you for the clear and step by step instructions. I would however, have liked to see the T-chart to be able to visualize finding the p-value better.

  • If I dont have a calculator to find the P value then what do I do. I got confused there on step 4. I'm not sure where is the area part is and how to look for it. Thank you.

  • Thank you!

  • lol I can't concentrate because she is so cute!

On the other hand, great teacher, really breaks it down.

..Now if she could just drop it likes it hot.. haha

  • How did you calculate the P-value ? which is 0.0017

  • Let me apologize for all the idiots on here who make comments about things other than the video you do a good job of explaining things its greatly appreciated please don't be deterred by those who act like they are still in the 6th grade

  • @sco40

Don't be an asshole if you don't like the video shut the fuck up and don't watch it
