But still the fact, that the captain left the ship way early and before the passengers. IS a fcking disgrace of the whole sea captains profession and the next time when ship crashes and is sinking, the ones going down with the ship will say:
"WERE ALL ON OUR OWN, THIS SHIP HAD AN ITALIAN CAPTAIN!!"
So, that much from tarpauling for the italians, if the ship im going to go, has an italian captain, ill pass the trip and sent a letter to that company. WTG CAPTAIN OF DISGRACE!

@sahajad Yeah, im not sure if you can really blame him. The panic you shoot into when you realize your going 22 knots into a iceberg, anyone would have tryed to turn around. Then again... i dont know.
-
Yes, this is true. I read it in Robert D Ballerd's book on the Titanic ! His turning the ship at the last minute also was the reason why the ship later broke into two due to the damage caused to the middle of it.
-
@sahajad Not trying to argue, adding to what you where saying, just before the impact of the iceberg, the captain of the Titanic, in panic, gave the order to turn. Experts believe that the damage would have been 10 times less if the titanic would have hit the iceberg head on, it would have onyl caused the first few flood doors in front of the ship to be damaged and not even half of it would have gone underwater.
-
The captain of the Titanic also made a blunder by asking the ship to increase the speed in spite of the iceberg warnings received from other ships. He thought that sicne it was a calm and cloudless night that everything would be fine.
However since he did not desert the ship he did not live to face the music unlike the Captain of the Concordia !

@ELFN7 I think the real failure with this captain was not so much the accident itself but how he handled the emergency as it unfolded. If I remember correctly the order to abandon ship came 1 hour 15 minutes after impact. Also... The italian coast gaurd got wind of the accident by a passenger calling for help, and in turned called the captain.

It was a TERRIBLE IRRESPONSABILITY of ONE MAN: The Captain.
At night, with out using the RADAR-SONAR, he decide to cross near the shore of the Island of Giglio.
Total Losses 10+ Dead+ 50 Missing+ Destructionof the Ship.+Damages to the Surviving Passangers+Damage to the Industry.

these rocks must have somthing against big ships

@Madamx0308 still does not matter since tides change, etc...

I found a good reconstruction of what might've happend at NavSim website, I know that a simulation would be better than just a static picture, but nontheless it's better than nothing:
Captain Fucking Idiot
Simple. Take him far out to sea and make him walk the plank.

@kickstar126 The fact that you are my colleague should make you understand that in our days it is critical not to keep one person to make decisions on the bridge. It was every bridge team member failure, same leading to Company way of management, etc. Any Captain trying to ordered to navigate this way in my presence on the bridge would be sent far away immediately. Luckily I have never meet Captains of this kind. Thus blaming single person is not absolutely correct. BRGDS.
