About 4 years ago my parents adopted a baby Sulphur Crested Cockatoo, he loved me and my dad but absolutely hated mum. He was so tame and could sing the song 'perfect' he enjoyed hugs. Unfortunately he got caught in his cage and we found him dehydrated. I loved him so much, I'll never forget him. I have a pet cockatiel called Bert now and he is just as tame. It takes a lot of patience to have parrots and I do understand your comments, they can bite fingers off with ease, if not handled properly.
I have worked with several species of parrots including Amazons, African Greys and Macaws. Not only have I done extensive research on these animals, I also have had firsthand experiences working with them.
Before making unfounded claims about my knowledge on these birds, you should perhaps pick up a book yourself - maybe on the correct spelling of don't.
My comments are not false, and I stand by my claim that parrots are better left to the experts.
You should do some research on parrots before posting stupid and false comments like this one. There are many types of parrots and most of them make great pets and few have the vocabulary that he has and most dont become one person birds.
In addition, Amazon parrots like Groucho can live to be up to 80 years old.
Parrots in the wild "date" for two years before bonding with another individual. Therefore companion parrots almost always bond with their owners, or one specific person. It makes it quite difficult to adopt parrots after the person they have bonded to passes on.
While I'm glad that you think parrots are cool, they are definitely not pets.
Parrots are as intelligent as some children, and unless constantly stimulated, can develop severe neurotic behavior.
Parrots out in the wild communicate through a series of loud vocalizations; something you would not want to hear often.
Finally, Groucho is an extreme exception. Most parrots cannot vocalize like him, let alone sing songs. Therefore it is best that parrots remain in the wild, or with professionals.
