Tom Cruises latest film, Valkyrie, tells the story of how a group of German officers (led by Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg) attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler.

The German Government, Claus von Stauffenbergs son and famous German Scientology critic, Ursula Caberta, all feel that choosing Cruise, Scientologys picture boy, for the role, is in extremely poor taste and that he should have turned the role down.

This video illustrates the depth of feeling in Germany at choosing Cruise for the main role of the film.

  • I thought personally Tom Cruise was fantastic in the movie, and made me interested in Stauffenberg myself.

  • Valkyrie has nothing to do with scientology.............the subject is Stauffenberg, not scientology.

  • What is it the Germans have against Scientology? They seem to be tolerated quite well over in North America. What is it specifically that The Germans don't like about the religion? Is this another war guilt thing?

  • I admit the Scientology stuff is a little spooky but Cruise really did do a good job at playing Stauffenberg.

  • Nice use of AT&T american English voice.lol

  • The next war for Germany will come from within because of the government overzealous censorship. Everyone understands the fear of a Fourth Reich rising to take control, but oppressing free speech and freedom of expression and religion only serve to enble the festering of anger and hatred which will one day explode. The road to hell is often paved with good intentions. Let everyone speech their minds and you alleviate the building pressure.

  • Being a history buff and 'gasp' a Christian, I thought Cruise did a fine job in this movie, along with all his costars. He lets us see not only the facts but the why as Stauffenberg sits in that basement looking at his wife and kids and realizes he has to do something to try and end it all. I especially like his reaction to his daughter putting on the hat and saluting him. Cruise is a scientologist, yes. Stauffenberg was a devout Catholic, yes. And this is still a very fine movie.

  • You do realise this isn't making Germany look any better right? This is hypocritical. If this is even true. They're basically saying they have no room for free debate. Cruises religious belief's have nothing to do with Germany. It's a personal matter. Downright silly to say we can't have self entitlement. He did a superb job. Yes. His JOB was too play the role of Stauffenberg. It was very well done. His religion had absolutely nothing to do with it.

  • What people must learn is a person's religion should be separated from their profession. People speak poorly about Scientology when Catholic Church have committed grotesques crimes against humanity is a contradiction. Despite the many cases of proven sexual and physical misconduct against children and adults, the German State STILL collects church tax for the Catholic church. Now tell me who is the bigger gangster! The argument isn't sound. It supports intolerance. ALL religions have faults.

  • Kretschmann should've had the lead role. Damn Tom dodgy Cruise.
