Ancient Giants of the Mediterranean

GIANTS OF THE ANCIENT WORLD

Throughout the ancient world legends of giants can be found in almost every culture. These beings have long been accepted as fact throughout human history. This video will document the historical, and archaeological evidence for the existence of real tribes of giants in the ancient Mediterranean.

The Hebrews record such a people in their Bible. For it is written:

"There were giants in the earth in those days."

Throughout the old testament there is a scattered reference to several tribes of giants in the land of Canaan: The Rephaim, Anakim, and Zamzummim.

They are described as, "Tall like cedars."

They made the Hebrew spies feel like grasshoppers.

In the time of Moses, the sons of Anak were inhabiting the area of Hebron, and were ruled by three leaders: Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai.

The Egyptian Execration Texts of 1800 BC are a collection of Egyptian records. They refer to a people in central Canaan called the "people of Anaq." They were ruled by three leaders: Erum, Abiyam, and Akirum. These are probably the sons of Anak reported in scripture.

The Bible also mentions a giant named king Og of Bashan. He was the last of the Rephaim giants, and was defeated by the Hebrews at Edrei in southern Syria. His bed or coffin measured 9 cubits long, which is over 13 feet.

In 1928 the Ras Shamra Texts were found on the site of the ancient Canaanite city of Ugarit. These cuneiform tablets date to 1200 BC, and speak of the existence of the Rephaim kings who worshiped at Ashtaroth and Edrei. Precisely where the Rephaim King Og was said to rule.

But just how tall were the giant men of Canaan?

The Papyrus Anastasi I (written around 1300 BC) is a political commentary written by Egyptian scribes. It mentions the existence of giants 4-5 cubits (7 to 9 feet) from head to foot who inhabited the hills of Canaan and terrified local travelers.

The most famous giant Goliath of Gath was said to have been 6 1/2 cubits tall, although some traditions say 4 1/2. This puts him somewhere between 7 and 10 feet tall. His brothers were equally as big as he was. Some of them even had six fingers.

The Bible implies that these Philistine giants are descendants of the Anakim who were wiped out by Caleb and Joshua, but retreated to the borders of Gaza, and Gath.

There are some clues these Philistine giants lingered on several centuries more.

The Greek poet Alcaeus of Lesbos in 600 BC mentions the killing of a giant at Ashqelon who was 5 Royal Babylonian cubits tall -- or 8 feet.

Thank you. Yes I have come across some reports of Double rows of teeth in some sites in North America. Fritz Zimmerman has written a series of books called the "Nephilim Chronicles" and he mentions several finds of double tooth giants found in the mid-west and west coast of North America. His youtube channel is called "Themoundbuilder" and has a lot of interesting videos. He also has a really interest blog called, gianthumanskeletons (dot) blogspot (dot) com

@rephaim23 OMG!! I haven't read the whole bible, but where does it say that giants were evil? I love the bit in Genesis where it says "There were giants on the earth in those days..." - it's one of my favorite parts of the bible. It amazes me that some Christians find these videos annoying or offensive. It says far more about them than it does about you & whether giants existed & were murdered by smaller people.

It is no small task that I say these things. I have always been obsessed with facts and figures, collecting guinness books etc. I always wanted to know what the tallest man ever was, or tallest tree. The more I dug into the giant reports the more questions I had and more mysterious it got. To my amazement, giants have been documented within the scientific literature at heights double my size, and I am 6 feet tall. If I can uncover this sort of stuff, they know it all.

I would say, the few Egyptian sources which mention giants place them in central Canaan at around 1200 BC and they are mentioned as being 5 cubits tall -- about 9 feet -- comprabale to Goliath. Now if the tribe of Anak, who was descended from the Nephilim literally made the Hebrews feel like grasshoppers, and I have no reason to doubt the statement, and taking the average man of those days at 5.5 feet, the giants may have been anything from 9 to 90 feet.

@rephaim23 Jesus made clear not one of us (mankind nor the giants) are 'good'. We are ALL imperfect, but especially these giants of old because they were the offspring of fallen angels and thus mankind is not 'good' for they are selfish and serve the self and not God;

Romans 3:11-12 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

That's my theory as well. That they were one of many early forms of man who became extinct and hunted over time, perhaps similar to Neanderthal man. Anthropologists today can reconstruct entire human trees from just a few bones found in Africa, so imagine how much evidence may exists of giants?

Today there are only a few hundred thousand Buffalo in America, but before the 20th century there were 70 million roaming the plains! They are now gone, like they never existed.
