second, notice the countdown, now figure in the delay from signal to screen, but the countdown was prob the launch of a missile or rocket , bc it was a long time before any actual hint of impact.

i think there buildingsome sort of base camp, and needed to get deeper , they bomb between some craters and bam instant footer. they make up some crap about an out of control equipment,then say," oh wait we'll use this to look for ice". good plan! sure beats hauling some excavating crew. its just a guess
