  • "television, like light rays, don't bend" That's not accurate, light rays DO bend!

Great film though, the future was so bright back then...

  • Great clips from the GE and CBS studios. Never seen them anywhere else.

And the only reason that NBC ID reel survives is because it's in this film.

  • that looks like Bel Geddes' 1939 Futurama to me.

  • Fascinating film--the opening sequence depicted a diorama of a cityscape which looked like it included the Sears Tower (which didn't open until 1974) The depiction of how TV would develop (taken from early kinescopes and films shot at what's now WNBC and WCBS-TV) anticipated everything from sports remotes to C-SPAN.

  • @picturepirate62 That's the year I moved to Portland Oregon where we had 4 TV stations, CBS NBC KPTV (Portland local) and ABC. NBC had a few programs in 'living color'. LeeBM29

  • @Leebm29 We got the first set in our village 1956 Langford BC

  • "i think its going to be a preety good world.."

    yeah....well :(

  • Television must have been mind-blowing in those days. To the early viewers, it must have truly seemed like magic. From radio to TV in such a short time.

  • brilliant thank you for posting this video!!!

  • Great footage of the beginnings of television! There were people who truly believed that TV would be a novelty thing but these early pioneers probably thought otherwise. More than 60 years later we are still watching TV. Thanks for posting this!
