This song is easy to understand..."cater to the hollow." In other words, we are addicted to filling voids or hungers in our lives: food, sex, aggression, intimacy, maybe drugs, habits, fetishes, drives, passions, etc. In the song, he laments that he is driven instinctively (almost mechanically) by them, feeling like he's not in control of his actions and disposition. The song gets to the heart of what it means to be human: to recognize your animal nature and struggle with trying to control it.
