I love the few seconds of stunned silence then the slow build-up of applause. I think no-one knew quite how to react to this performance, esp. since it was the first Mtv awards show. Madonna broke the rules before anybody knew what the rules were! That's why she's a legend. Not being affraid to offend or take chances. She's amazing.

@freshpickedoranges @freshpickedoranges did you hear when the audience clapped? It was almost as if they were uncomfortable with her performance but were forced to clap anyway. There is barely an applause. When Michael performed, for instance, people were moved to the point of being speechless. It's like a student who does a terrible speech and the teacher says: "come on, everyone, let's give our student a round of applause, he or she did his or her best". I don't think anyone enjoyed it.
