Baggara (Hawazma) wrestlers during the peace agreement anniversary in Kadugli. Wrestling (sura'a in arabic) originally belongs to Nuba. Baggara arabs borrowed this practice during their continuous contact with Nuba. Although, wrestling represent an important factor of identity for the Baggara.

More importantly, Arab culture is based upon an oral transmission of tribal kinship (i.e Banu Juhayna tribe). They went with the Ummayyads to Spain and later went back into Africa looking for a new place for themselves. Which they found further southeast in Chad and western Sudan. Arabs are not a race.Some are black some are brown. It's all about tribe and lineage + language. Show some respect!

Salaam. Please, Can some one explain the rules of Nubian Wrestling? What is allowed to touch the ground and how to you win a match? Cause sometimes it seems like the guy is thrown or taken down but they keep fighting?
