Sri Rama-lila drama play

This video contains pictures and clips from the Sri Rama-lila drama play that was done under the guidance and for the pleasure of Srila Narayana Goswami Maharaja, as part of the Bhakti-Yoga 2009 Houston festival.

In this play, the Supreme Personality has descended as Lord Sri Rama, a prince of Ayodhya. He is the son of King Dasarath. Young Rama asks mother Kaikeyi to use her two boons to fulfill His wish. As she loves Him most dearly, she agrees, even though Rama asks for a terrible boon - that He be banished for 14 years into the forest, and his brother, Bharata, reign as King.

Kaikeyi fulfills Rama's wish, even though it means the heartbreak of everyone, and her own son Bharata disowns her when he finds his worshipable Lord Rama is gone. Bharata sets out with his brother Shatrughna to bring Rama back to Ayodhya, while Rama prepares to go into the forest with his brother Laxmana and wife Sita. On the way, Bharata, who loves Rama more than anything, discovers Rama's footprints and is overwhelmed with ecstatic emotion.

Upon Bharata's arrival, a great counsel is held. Bharata insists Rama return, out of love. Rama insists he stay, as part of his duty to fulfill the boons, and to play out the pastimes of the Ramayana. King Janaka tells Bharata that, true love is considering the happiness of one's beloved. When Bharata aska Rama how to make Him happy, Rama says that He accepts Ayodhya, but that Bharata must rule the kingdom as regent in his stead for 14 years. Bharata takes Lord Rama's shoes to worship and agrees to uphold the kingdom while Rama is gone.

Quotes in the narrative sections of this video are of my notes taken on the translation of a class by Srila Narayana Maharaja (original class in Hindi) on this specific Bharata and Rama pastime of the Ramayana.
