Yesterdays TV ............love it!

If you have never seen Don Giovanni on stage...this is a great subsitute. Naturally because of the coustumes and the scenery but its perfect!
My only wish is that the poster had included the subtitles for those who don't know the entire story. Still and all.....thanks so much for posting this.

Your comment made my day :) - I've always felt the same, I fell in love with Mozart (and Raimondi!) at the age of 9 when this film came out, and it's such a stunning production that no thing else will ever come close
RIP Joseph Losey, he created a true masterpiece

Some critics weren't enamored of the conception and staging, but it's hard to complain about this cast or musical direction. I especially love Van Dam as Leporello.

my favorite opera

super serbia

this movie is my favorite Don Giovanni!!.......giggle

I love there are the musicians in the background playing divertimenti that "just happen" to coincide with the singing. Capital idea! I hate opera interpretations that try to "reimage" the work in our time; it just doesn't work, because the music isn't from our time.

I have this on DVD and subtitles are naturally an option on the video. This is a great rendition of this opera and I highly recommend it if this is something you'd like to sit with a good bottle of wine and enjoy. Be forewarned though..as is the opera, its 3 hours in length.

Well... There is no substitute to live singing..... and in my opinion, the smaller the theatre the better...... Althogh I am one of the guys who prefer good singing then good acting.... althought if a good combination can be acchieved there is nothing better on stage.......
But movie..... it is nice.... but not for opera.......
This is a spoiler version!
I made the mistake (or not) to watch this version as my first Don Giovanni. Now every other version seems without flavor.
Best Leporello ever. Superb conduction. Best Don Giovanni ever. Mozart would be proud.
