Is he an obsessed lover/ex-lover? Private detective? Maybe just a creepy stalker? Perhaps he's a symbol. Maybe he's meant to show there's no such thing as privacy anymore. My favorite of my screwball theories is the idea that the world is full of terrible, twisted people but when you're with the person you love you ignore that. The rest of the world ceases to exist. It also reminds me of the movie Alphaville and maybe it's nothing more than a homage to that. Whatever the answer, I love this vid.

@GlitcHead the creepy guy has a wedding band which is visible when he clips her hair. Judging by the lovers initial awkwardness, she is a cheating spouse who meets her lover at the motel. My theory is that love is blind which is why they never noticed him. I truly love the black and white aspect, makes this so Hitchcock-like!
