Former Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden Thursday formally launched the evolutionary Mongoose bat that has a longer handle and smaller blade but a bigger sweet spot than the conventional cricket bat.

The burly southpaw demonstrated power hitting on the sidelines of a media conference here and endorsed the product, saying it had a faster bat speed besides power designed specifically for Twenty20 cricket.

The Mongoose bat is named after the animal known for its ferocity and is said to be a ball crusher.

Talking high on utility of the long handled bat Hayden said I tried out nearly 2000 balls and about 500 balls played with this bat (the reminder with more traditional Mongoose bat). I am absolutely certain that I will be using this bat.

  • You could still use it in Test Cricket; if you are a number 10 or 11

  • Hmm seems like he's using it to smash the Delhi Daredevils around at this very minute...

  • Go by a hawk cricket bat

  • @lightningleaf23 I've tryed this bat and my opinion is that it does give you more bat speed...... its just its almst impossible to defend with!

  • "Negotiate a bouncer" - You can always negociate a bouncer, surely you mean the slightly back of a length ball.

  • gimmick. I ve seen it in use and yet to be convinced its anything better than a normal bat. I reckon it will only prove itself if Hayden gets more runs this IPL than last and I reckon he won t as the changing of bat effects rythm waste of time.

  • That's the reason he did not use it before. He was out before he could get settled.

  • This can be best used when a batsmen is set and knows how the pitch is behaving since you cant negotiate a bouncer with it.
