I Promise: A Jemi One-Shot (Contest Entry for Mysti624)

I stared outside my window... just like I do every other day... waiting... waiting... but he never came. Not in 2 whole years. And I know he's still alive. I know he's still out there. And I won't give up...

5 years ago, during Senior year of high school, I met the most wondeful boy. His name was Joseph Adam Jonas. Joe for short. We fell in love the moment we saw each other for the first time. I was a new student, and he was captain of the football team. Doesn't sound like it'd go together huh? Well luckily, in this case it did.

4 years ago, we married. I still remember that day on our 1 year anniversary when he knelt down and asked me to marry him. We were still so in love back then and I was
ready to marry my perfect man. We married 6 months later, out in our favorite place, the beach. Right now I'm looking down at my wedding ring. It reminds me of all of our promises. I'll love him forever no matter what.

3 years ago, we were blessed with a child. Her name? Rebecca Angelina Jonas. He was always there with me. We planned on raising the child together. When I look at her I can see my Joseph in her. Full of life and happiness. We love her more and more each day.

2 years ago, the national gaurd called him back. He was to go back to war, just like he did before I came along. There was nothing he could do, even though he had a child. He
had to leave to serve for two years, and he promised me he was going to come back. Then he packed up some of his things and left to serve our country.

1 year ago, I realized I had raised our child all by myself. She had learned to walk and talk. But her father wasn't there to see her take her first step or speak her first word. Her father was not there the first day she went of to pre-school on her own. Sometime's she'll ask me, "Mommy, all my friends have daddys. Where is mine?" and I'd just simply say, "Your daddy will come home soon, sweetheart. He promises."

Right now I'm staring out the window. Still waiting for his return. Rebecca had fallen asleep during the afternoon. She had a tiring day after school with her friends. Just then outside I saw a figure. A man standing proud and tall. He walked down the path and soon he was close enough for me to see him. I gasped and ran towards the door, I ran out and hugged him so tight, just like I did 2 years before. "Joe, you came back." I whispered. "I promised you I would." he said back to me. Then he kissed me, more passionately than ever before. Just then I heard a little noise coming from behind me. It was Rebecca peeking out the door. "Come here sweetie," I said to her. She slowly walked out, I could tell she was a little afraid. Joe smiled at her. "Your daddy's home." I said to her and she smiled and ran out and jumped into his arms. "Daddy!" she said happily. "I missed you too, Becca." He said. Then he looked at me and said, "I'm never going back." he said. I smiled. "Really?" "Really," he said, "I promise."

Though Joe never saw her first step, heard her first word, or walked her to her first day of school, he'll see her have her first love, her first heartbreak, her first... everything else.
But this time... we'll both be there for her. Always.
