Professor Philip Chenique first came to the world of Martial Arts at the age of seven, beginning with the study of Judo at the Y.M.C.A. in New York. He also undertook the study of Karate and Ken-Jitsu. By age thirteen, Professor Chenique was studying Take-No-Uchi Kogen-Ryu Atemi Jujitsu with Sensei Richard Adams. Later, at age twenty, he studied Shotokan Karate under the guidance of Shihan Barry Deutsch.
Professor Chenique traveled with his father, a Green Beret in the military, and was given the opportunity to gain exposure to various types of Martial Arts around the United States and in Europe. It was the exposure to different forms of fighting which gave Professor Chenique an insight to the principles of combat on both an offensive and defensive level.

Professor Chenique soon became a student of Dr. Moses Powell, the founder of the Sanuces Ryu-Jujitsu system, and Dr. Powell's teacher, Master Florendo Vistacion, as well as many other Grandmasters. In 1975, after attaining the rank of Shihan, Professor Chenique established his form of Jujitsu and christened it "Atemi-Ryu Jujitsu."

I take Aikido, Arnis, Jujitsu and kenjustsu with Grand Master Lioni Velasquez in North Carolina, I can tell you first hand that it isn't a mma bootleg. We teach breaks, eye gouges, wrist locks, finger locks and we try to avoid ground fighting because an opponent might have buddies.

Keep in mind these are kids 10 and under practicing basics but maybe you'd prefer they break each others arms, smash-in each others sinus cavities with elbow strikes, or blind each by stabbing each others eyes.
