One of the great American Composers, Ex-Husker Du and Sugar Frontman Bob Mould Live at the Forum, London, 1998...with a masterpiece of Depression and Anger, a perfect Rock Tune from his 1990 Album Release "Black Sheets of Rain"

Stand guard over what is mine
Stand guard day and night to watch over me and mine
I keep at a distance, it suits me just fine
I need no assistance, I stand guard all the time
I meant it as a threat
It's a promise you can keep
Don't want no interference
Standing up in my sleep

Stand guard over sea and land
I watch what they've done to this earth, I don't need no master plan
When all the consequences have far been outweighed by selfish reward
I feel an obligation sometimes I'm not quite sure what it's toward

There's got to be some reason that we all keep on living
More often than not we leave this earth
With at least two handfuls of misgiving
I stand guard over what is rightfully mine

I watch all this beauty disintegrating
To stand guard is not enough
Makes me feel like I'm waiting for something horrendous to happen
but I stand guard over family and friends
It's all that I can do to stand here and watch how this lifetime ends
I've never felt as much as I feel for you now
I'm not about to stand here and watch this whole world bring you down

I see how it brings you down
But I will stand guard for you
I will stand guard over you

  • greatest! So depressing and optimistic at the same time! Makes my day.

  • one of the best guitarists EVER! no doubt

  • Wicked, I love this song.

  • wow, how about the whole show?

  • I love Bob and I love this song. But I just sometimes wonder in a light-hearted way just how he knows how we more often than not feel when we leave this earth. Has he done it before?

  • @Loewe68

One of my favorite BM tunes. Saw him do this on the Black Sheets tour. He opened with Black Sheets and all the people who rushed the stage just before he came out.... scattered like mice when he hit the openning chords. It was soooo freakin loud, I was truly afraid that my ears were going to explode. Everyone was looking for refuge. Good fun

  • I love Bob's solo work, Sugar and Husker Du. Thank you for posting this.
