this is one of the best exercises you can do to strengthen hamstrings.. take it from someone who's pulled two of them
he's doing it a little wrong though. you want to go down REALLY slowly, almost as slow as you can. you should really feel a burn. 20-30 reps split up into however many sets you want should be enough for anyone.
And that is how I snapped both my hamstrings at the same time doctor ;)

hahaha, i tried to do it on bench few days ago and stopped after i saw ground :).
there are much better ones for beginners to train hamstrings
