Sami Inkinen
Male, Age 35
Home: Finland (now San Francisco)
Profession: Co-Founder and COO of Trulia.com
Challenge: Overcome a busy professional schedule and pull together specified training to perform well in Kona.
Background: Sami has been coached by Matt Dixon of purplepatch for the past 3 years and continues to impress. He's an extremely time starved entrepreneur, high-technology company co-founder, and Stanford University grad who only has time to fit in 12 hours of training each week. Even with all that he has going on, he still has managed to pull off an 8 hour, 50 minute Ironman.
Strategy for Kona: Sami goes into Kona better prepared to deal with the heat and will focus on strong backside performances on run, bike and swim events. He has lowered his Ironman training volume and placed more energy into intensity and recovery, so he should be set up for a great day.
Expectations: Sami is coming off a 2nd place finish at ITU Short Course Worlds a few weeks back and is feeling good with his performance. As a strong athlete with strong ability, he will be better able to deal with heat than before, so this could be a great year for him.
