If you are the last defender (which Neill was) and are in line with the direct route to goal (which Neill was) and cause an obstruction (which Neill did) then the referee must AWARD a penalty.

The only injustice was that Lucas Neill wasn't sent off, as Materazzi was earlier in the game. So was Australia cheating earlier in the game?
