  • these people had such a differnt simple wy of living, always waintg for something to happen.

  • John Ford at his best. The scenes are borne of the sentimental dramas of the 1800's. They are all finely crated. The movie should get a special Oscar. The Academy likes to do stuff like that now and then. "We here, the Academy, give this Oscar to "The Searcher's" because we screwed up the first time." (Those gold statuettes only cost $150, although it would be easy to cast a solid gold one from the mold.)

  • One word describes this part...

    Women...

  • The conversation between Ethan and Martin @ 6:40 convinces me that Debbie is meant to be Ethan's daughter, not niece. Ethan says "Martin, there's something I want you to know..." and is interupted by Martin. They were talking about kinship just before and Ethan completely drops the matter after Martin's outburst. The way Wayne read the line indicated his character had intended to broach a serious and sensitive subject. Ford tended not to shoot superfluous dialogue (except for comic relief).

  • "A Texican aint nothin' but a human bein' out on a limb..."

  • blue jeans had not been invented yet, let alone used in texas

  • Ottimo..!!
