"California King Bed" is a song by Barbadian recording artist Rihanna. The song was written by Andrew Harr, Jermaine Jackson, Priscilla Renea and Alex Delicata, and produced by The Runners, for Rihanna's fifth studio album, Loud (2010). It was released on May 13, 2011 through Def Jam as the album's fourth single. "California King Bed" is a rock song, and was featured in the 2011 "100 Years of Skin Care" Nivea Commercial campaign.
"California King Bed" received mixed reviews from music critics, with some considering it Rihanna's best vocal performance, despite considering the song a weak ballad. "California King Bed" achieved moderate success. It peaked at number one in Poland, while reaching the top five in Australia, Austria, Germany and New Zealand, and making into the top ten on several European countries. The single was certified Platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) and Gold by the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ).
An accompanying music video, directed by Anthony Mandler, portrays Rihanna singing about how she is desperate for her lover to show his real feelings. The creative director designed an eighteen feet long custom bed for the video. Rihanna has performed "California King Bed" several times, including at the ACM Awards, along with Sugarland front woman Jennifer Nettles; American Idol, and on NBC's Today show. The song was also included on 2011's Loud Tour.
