This is me on guitar playing a short instrumental I created called "Calypso Thing." I muff it slightly at the end, but the important thing is that I built this guitar. Martin Guitar sells a kit of parts to build a D18, and it's quite the little beast to build. It plays okay and sounds great -- some of that great sound is captured in this video.

  • So where's the calypso in that?

  • @TheDaveWallace I thought it sounded vaguely calypso, so I called it "Calypso Thing." Composer's privilege, I suppose.

  • i like it

  • Thanks!

  • Who are some of your guitar influences? when you go to play those open chords at 00:25 I can hear some Clarence White :)

  • Surely you jest... :-)

I came up with the main phrase doodling around with the ending of Supertramp's "Give a Little Bit." At 00:25, it's just some filler based around a C9 and A7... just chords that sound nice together and give me a percussive bass note.

As for influences, I'd say this is somewhere between the Beatles and Jimmy Buffet, both big faves of mine.

    Thanks for asking!
